God of War Ragnarok – Behind the Scenes via the Cinematics

Sony shows the eighth part of the behind-the-scenes series God of War Ragnarökwhich today focuses on the cinematics and how Fenrir came to life.

Santa Monica Studio’s Narrative and Cinematic Team introduces how the breathtaking film sequences were created, which add tension, drama and emotion to the story.

The approach to creating a film sequence was a big challenge for the Santa Monica Studio team because God of War Ragnarök was her biggest and most ambitious project to date. From the first script, to animation and visual effects, to motion capturing the actors, everything had to be created in close collaboration, but this was made even more difficult by the pandemic.

To give a concrete idea of the process, the team shows how Fenrir came to life. Thorough research was carried out in advance in order to portray Fenrir in a particularly authentic way. For this purpose, videos of wolves and dogs were recorded and real wolves were interacted with in order to better understand the behavior of the animals and thus be able to reproduce it realistically in the game.
