The fact is: Minister of the Interior Karner and Chancellor Nehammer are creating solutions and making progress on the asylum issue

Vienna (OTS) “Kickl was overwhelmed as interior minister, and that without additional, global crises. Kickl’s incompetence can be illustrated very well by the length of the proceedings in first-instance decisions. In 2022, the average duration of the procedure – with almost 90,000 asylum decisions – was around 3.5 months. In 2018, under the then Interior Minister Herbert Kickl, there were almost 31,000 asylum decisions and the average duration of the procedure was around 21.5 months. One cannot be proud of a procedure that lasted 7 times longer. But the radical Kickl-FPÖ also wants to forget this inhumane fact,” said the People’s Party’s spokesman for integration and migration, Ernst Gödl, in response to the broadcast by FPÖ MP Amesbauer.

“The fact is: Minister of the Interior Karner and Chancellor Nehammer are creating solutions and making progress on the asylum issue. The recently agreed European unification in the asylum system, which would not have succeeded without the urging of the People’s Party, shows that hard work is paying off. Our partners in the EU see us as a model country when it comes to the fight against the gang of people smugglers and the steady reduction in the number of asylum seekers. Because while the number of asylum seekers in the European Union continues to rise, they are falling in our country,” says Gödl and finally emphasizes: “Austria will continue to be tough on asylum policy. The asylum brake is far from being tightened enough in the EU. The goal for a real solution to the migration influx is and remains: asylum procedures in third countries and the complete repair of the EU asylum system.”
