Project participants received “Golden Plaque” from Croatian Parliament Vice President Ante Sanader
- State Security Minister Mair is pushing for the continuation of the successful project

The “Golden Plaque” is the highest award given by the Sabor – the Croatian Parliament. Yesterday, Thursday, the project participants of the Tyrol-Croatia fire brigade partnership, including a state security officer, received Astrid Mairthis special honor at a solemn ceremony in the Croatian Parliament in Zagreb by the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Croatia, Ante Sanader, presented. Next to LRin Mair received the project coordinator Peter Logar and, in their absence, the government members previously responsible for security agendas Anton Steixner and Josef Geisler awarded the award.
The Deputy Project Coordinator was also awarded a Silver Medal by the Croatian Parliament Hubert Ritter and the Croatian project coordinator Tomislav StokicState Fire Inspector Alphonse Gruberstate fire chief Jacob Unterladstatterthe head of the state fire brigade school in Telfs Georg Waldhart and the former district fire inspector of Imst Josef Wagner.
Successful project will be continued in the future
LRin Mair thanks Parliament Vice-President Sanader for the honor and explains: “The Tyrol-Croatia fire brigade partnership stands for the joint development and strengthening of the Croatian fire brigades as well as for cross-border friendships in the interest of everyone’s safety. Together with the local partners, we put together the best possible support: This includes vehicles, equipment, but also the transfer of know-how through targeted training. Our goal is to help people to help themselves. Today’s award is a sign that Croatian politicians also stand by the project. We are proud to be able to help and that disused vehicles can continue to be put to good use in Tyrol.”
Parliament Vice President Sanadar thanked LRin Mair and the other project participants for the extraordinary contribution to the development of the fire service in Croatia: “We are grateful for the valuable donation of fire engines. There has never been such a large project with an Austrian federal state,” said the Vice President in a broadcast by the Croatian Parliament.
“Today’s award is a great honor for me and an important sign of the importance of the cooperation that has existed between Tyrol and Croatia for more than ten years. The project stands above all for friendships and a close connection that develops between Tyrol and Croatia. We would like to continue doing this in the future. We are already in contact with other counties and fire brigades in Croatia and are preparing steps to support them as well as possible,” says Peter Logar, founder and coordinator of the project. Security Councilor Mair supports this project.
Fire service partnership Tyrol-Croatia unique in Europe
Since 2011, as part of the Tyrol-Croatia fire brigade partnership, volunteer fire brigades in Croatia have been supported with equipment, training and vehicles from Tyrol. So far, more than 230 vehicles have been handed over to Croatian fire brigades. The partnership project focuses on the regions of Slavonia in north-eastern Croatia. Volunteer fire brigades are also supported on the coast, for example in the Zadar region. “A partnership in this form is unique in Europe. I would like to thank everyone involved in the project and the volunteer fire brigades in Tyrol for their commitment and willingness to work for our Croatian friends.” LRin Mair.
LRin Mair visited volunteer fire brigades in the Zadar region this week and handed over a former fire brigade vehicle from the Weer volunteer fire brigade to the Sveti Filip i Jakov volunteer fire brigade, where the emergency vehicle is already being used in the wake of the currently prevailing floods.
