The government approved a new increase in the allocations for subsidizing food commodities during the next fiscal year 2023/2024, amounting to 42%, compared to the allocations for subsidizing food commodities in the current fiscal year.
The ration card holders are waiting for the prices of the ration commodities scheduled during the month of July to start obtaining the ration sugar, ration rice and ration oil at reduced prices.
Appropriations for catering subsidies in the new budget scheduled for next July amounted to 127.7 billion pounds, compared to 90 billion pounds in the current fiscal year.
Allocations for support in the new budget 2023/2024 increased to 451.7 billion pounds compared to 331.2 billion pounds in the current budget 2022/2023, an increase of about 36%. Five economic agencies have noted the increase in support in the new budget, led by the General Authority for Commodities ration, according to the statement of the Ministry of Finance.

Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi – Minister of Supply and Internal Trade confirmed that the central operations room in the ministry follows up daily the commodity and supply situation in the governorates during the Eid Al-Adha holiday.
He pointed out that the ministry provides fresh Sudanese and Djiboutian meat at 195 pounds per kilo, and frozen Brazilian meat at 160 pounds per kilo, and sliced meat at 170 pounds per kilo.
Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi confirmed that the ministry diversified the origins and sources of imports from several African countries and imported up to 25,000 head of cattle from Sudan and Djibouti, in addition to importing sheep from Uganda and Tanzania.
For his part, Major General Ahmed Hassanein, CEO of the Holding Company for Food Industries, confirmed that the central operations room, which Dr. In consumer complexes, all commodities, including fresh and chilled meat, have been allocated, indicating that a number of wholesale stores have been allocated in each governorate to disburse the goods of the ration system to the exchange outlets during the Eid al-Adha holiday.
The official spokesman for the ministry, Assistant Minister Dr. Ahmed Kamal, stated that Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi – Minister of Supply and Internal Trade follows up daily on the pumping of goods and meat as well, and pointed out that Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi directed the directors of the directorates to establish central operations rooms in each directorate in addition to operating rooms in the departments. Assistant Minister of Supply, Ahmed Kamal, said that the state’s intervention in providing meat, whether live or slaughtered in consumer complexes, prevented the price of meat from escaping in the local market and contributed to providing citizens’ needs.
Ahmed Kamal added, the rates of pumping fresh and frozen meat were increased from 150 to 500 carcasses per day in preparation for Eid Al-Adha, at a price of 195 pounds per kilo of Sudanese and Djibouti, and at a price of 160 pounds for a frozen Brazilian and 130 pounds for an Indian.
The Ministry of Supply had stated earlier that the official working hours for consumer complexes start from 9 am to 9 pm.

The ministry indicated in a statement to providing their needs of meat without specifying a maximum quantity limit, especially with the flow of shipments that it had recently contracted to the ports.
Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, said that the ministry is continuing contracts for importing meat and offering it at outlets at affordable prices for citizens.
He pointed out that the state is working to secure strategic stocks of meat by importing livestock from several origins and increasing pumping rates in the markets, in addition to establishing 36 sheds belonging to the Holding Company for Food Industries nationwide to sell live and chilled sheep, in accordance with the controls and requirements.
