The Government, through the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis), will unprotect healthy eating for children and girls of the country since it will shorten the days of delivery of fresh milk in Qali Warma, warned the Association of Dairy Farmers of Peru (Agalep) in The Republic.

Carlos Lozada, president of the group, expressed the discontent of the farmers after learning that the State will reduce the distribution of 1.2 million rations of natural milk from 144 days to only 22 days by 2024 (for the same number of beneficiaries). .

“That is, a decrease of 85% in the total volume of milk delivered throughout the year at the national level,” he commented.

This decision by the Boluarte management is supported by Executive Directorate Resolution No. D000768-2023-MIDIS/PNAEQW-DE, which authorizes Qali Warma to acquire only 4.5 million liters of raw milk from farmers for the current with the 29 million registered in 2019.

Blow to the health of boys and girls

To replace fresh milk, the Government will provide a partial substitute called “Prepared Drinkable for Immediate Consumption”, which has components of lower nutritional quality despite the fact that “they mention the possibility of using quinoa and kiwicha.”

Thus, suppliers will use imported pre-cooked oat flakes that will be cheaper than Andean grains, Agalep added.

They will affect the economy of ranchers

Not only will children’s nutrition be at risk – maintains Agalep – but also the economy of livestock families.

As of 2019, 29 million liters of fresh milk were purchased at S/1.50 per liter, and with this, farmers received S/44 million. Now with the cut they will be given S/6.7 million for 6.5 million liters this year. They will stop receiving S/37.3 million.

“We demand the replacement of the ‘Prepared Drink for Immediate Consumption’ (cereal water) with national milk. Milk that can be provided by our small producers nationwide, who need to sell their product to support their families, and strengthen national food security,” Lozada noted.

Qali Warma affirms that fresh milk replacement complies with CENAN parameters

After it became known that the Government would replace fresh milk with a Prepared Drink for Immediate Consumption, the national school feeding program Qali Warma issued a statement, where it assured that this industrialized drink made from milk and its derivatives complies with the recommendations of the National Center for Food, Nutrition and Healthy Living (CENAN) of the Ministry of Health.

Qali Warma assures that this liquid that will replace fresh milk will come in “120 types of varied drinks” made from quinoa, kiwicha, cañihua, oats, maca and industrialized milk derivatives, and will also provide 25% of the requirement. total energy, as well as 12% protein and between 15% and 30% fat that schoolchildren need during the day. This nutritional value that this liquid will offer is governed by the CENAN parameters.

In addition, they explained that these drinks contain a low level of sugar, as well as the careful treatment in the packaging process so that the nutritional value of these products is not altered.
