Juan Gabros, a presidential candidate, shared photos and details of a meeting with former Uruguayan president José “Pepe” Mujica and his wife, Lucía Topolansky. The visit took place during the trip to Montevideo made by the social leader, to meet various meetings and present his book The Worst.

Mujica received Grabois at his farm, the house where he lived for decades with his wife, former Senator Lucía Topolansky on the outskirts of the capital of the neighboring country, and where countless political visitors, many of them Argentines, have passed through. There, the three held a talk in which Grabois said that they talked about the need to promote the “Latin American integration” and also about the “ethics of austerity”, a subject in which Mujica has been an example, since despite having passed through the highest level of power, he never changed his daily life and customs.

“Together with his partner Lucía, Mujica welcomed me into his home. I appreciate his warmth and political advice, but above all his ethical and humane example at a time when we have to face a culture dominated by exclusion and consumerism”said the referent of the Movement of Excluded Workers (MTE) on their social networks.

As mentioned, Grabois arrived in Uruguay on Saturday night to present his book. the worst at a FUNSA union headquarters. This event was organized by the Jose Artigas Brigadea Uruguayan organization dedicated to organizing work in the popular economy.

During his rapid passage through Uruguayan territory, the social leader also toured spaces of the popular economy and entrepreneurship made up of neighborhoods in Montevideo.

José “Pepe” Mujica: “Argentine society is self-destructing due to this madness of change”

It is worth mentioning that, at the end of April, the former Uruguayan president analyzed the economic and social crisis in Argentina and remarked: “Many decades ago the Argentine people lost confidence in their currency. A culture of mistrust was formed. Argentine society ‘self-destroys’ (sic) itself due to this abrupt madness of change“.

“It has happened to it three or four times at least in its history, and apparently the evil persists“, insisted Mujica and lamented: “One of the great setbacks of our Latin America is not having prompted the custom of trading with our ‘Creole coins’ in time.”

The Worst, the book by Juan Grabois

The book written by the social leader, whose full title is The Worst: lazy, jets, squatters and violent, tries, as explained in his presentation, “respond to the main attacks received by popular movements by different sectors of society, politicians, the media and discourses that are expressed in common senses”.

The text, which makes an effort to end the “demonization” of social movements, is written in the format of a legal argument in defense of the most frequent accusations made against the members of said movements.

Among other things, the book opens a debate around the problems present in Argentine society, security and crime, access to land and housing, and public policies for the reintegration of released prisoners. In addition, it raises once again the need for a universal basic salary.
