Gran Turismo 7 on PS VR2 will have no limitations, except for split screen

The confirmation of Gran Turismo 7 as a launch game for PS VR2 was one of the great PlayStation announcements during CES 2023. A few weeks after the news, it is the game director himself who sheds light on the version that we will receive on the device: it will be the complete edition to exception of two player split screen mode.

Yamauchi excited about PS VR2 in Gran Turismo 7

“We are excited that Gran Turismo 7 will be a toss game from PS VR2. Through a free update for all those who already bought the game, players will be able to experience all the cars and circuits in virtual reality like never before”, he explains. Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital and head of this delivery. “Gran Turismo 7 in virtual reality takes full advantage of all the next-generation capabilities of PlayStation VR2.”

The Japanese creative emphasizes those functions, such as eye tracking and foveado rendering, which will make “visual fidelity impressive in any of the more than 450 cars available”. Except for the two player split screen mode, all races and the multiplayer environment will be available. Yamauchi concludes his statements by noting that the circuits will be perceived “exactly as they are in real life”, from the Nürburgring to Tsukuba.

There was some fear in the community about not having specified from the beginning what would be the level of support that the game would have. Everything comes from the support that Gran Turismo Sport received for the first generation of PlayStation VR, which was limited to a single game mode in one-on-one racing. An individual experience that did not take into account the rest of the offer. The technical limitations of PS4 and the device itself were the reasons for this move.
