Some of the security measures that were imposed during several days of escalation between the Israeli army and Islamic Jihad fighters in the Gaza Strip have been eased, with the two parties continuing to abide by the declared cease-fire that was reached in the past hours with Egyptian mediation.

And the Israeli army announced that crossing into the Strip became possible after the gradual retraction of its security measures and the reopening of two crossing points partially inside the Strip, including a vital fishing area off the coast.

The United States welcomed the ceasefire reached on Saturday evening, praising Egypt as the traditional mediator between the two warring parties and its “decisive” effort and role in establishing a truce and urging the parties to the conflict, Israel and the Palestinian factions, to stop the violence.

In the first hours of its entry into force, it was breached and skirmishes took place, but with the passage of time, commitment to the armistice and its activation became clear, and the intensity of the fighting decreased significantly. Reports say that Egypt has urged the two parties to implement the agreement and that it is working to follow up on that by communicating with them.

With its entry into force, the armistice allows for an end to bloodshed and an end to the suffering of the citizens to begin to recover from the effects of the new round of escalation between Gaza and Israel, which is considered the most dangerous since August 2022, and has left no less than thirty-five dead over the course of 5 days – all of them from The Palestinians, with the exception of one person who fell on the Israeli side.

The round of violence erupted on Tuesday when Israel targeted three leaders of the Islamic Jihad movement.
