“Valuable additional offer for the growing needs of companies and young people”

Vienna (OTS) The committee of the nationwide Gastronomy Association of the Chamber of Commerce today gave its approval in principle to vegan and vegetarian specialist training. Before the final decision can be made, a series of documents on course content and examinations must be drawn up. Joachim Ivany, mandatary of the green economy and owner of the “Bean Counter” in Vienna’s Pilgramgasse, is in charge of this preparatory work. He introduced the proposal for additional courses to the committee.

Milestone for the catering industry

“Today we reached an important milestone for the catering industry,” says Ivany happily. “There is a definite and growing need for a meatless cooking education. On the one hand, this applies to the young people who we want to recruit as specialists for the catering industry and of whom more than a quarter are now vegan or vegetarian. And on the other hand, it also applies to hundreds of restaurants throughout Austria that specialize in meatless cuisine. In the future, they will have the opportunity to train specialists specifically for their needs.

“We are very pleased that the months of hard work have paid off and congratulate Joachim Ivany on this outstanding success,” said Sabine Jungwirth, spokeswoman for the green economy. “The new apprenticeship is great progress for the catering industry and a sign of how we can lead the Chamber of Commerce step by step towards the future with concrete commitment and against all resistance.

After the decision in the professional association, a formal confirmation is required from the Ministry of Economics, where the training regulations are set by ordinance.
