This year’s edition of “Holiday On Ice”, which is set to be the most breathtaking of its kind, will take place for the first time as a green event in the Wiener Stadthalle.
VIENNA. The ice show “Holiday On Ice” has been delighting people all over the world for 80 years. But the annual event, which celebrated its premiere this year on January 17th (see below), not only impresses with the breathtaking performance of the figure skaters and the fascinating production.
They also want to set an example for sustainability. That’s why this year they are being listed as a “Green Event” for the first time. Wien Holding managing director Kurt Gollowitzer and Wiener Stadthalle managing director Matthäus Zelenka accepted the environmental certification in the Wiener Stadthalle. “Contributing to achieving the city’s climate goals is a high priority for Wien Holding. The entertainment industry plays an important role in raising awareness of environmental issues, and we are proud to contribute to this with our operations,” says Gollowitzer.
The Wiener Stadthalle, where “Holiday On Ice” takes place every year, was officially EMAS certified in 2022. This is the award for the venue’s “Eco-Management” and “Audit Schemes”. “By implementing sustainable measures, such as the use of renewable energies and recycling initiatives, we continue to work towards an environmentally conscious and sustainable future,” promises Zelenka.
From recycling to reusable cups
In addition, the Wiener Stadthalle focused on environmentally friendly mobility and energy supply, comprehensive waste avoidance and separation concepts and the use of regional food. Backstage and in guest catering, reusable containers, cups and capsule-free coffee machines are used.
This year’s edition of Holiday On Ice, called “A New Day,” promises to be the most artistically and technically complex show in its history. It takes place from January to January 28th. Further information and tickets are available at Website of the Wiener Stadthalle.
