Joker Dumps Carbonated Meat Prices
Joker is currently selling 400-gram packages of Folkets carbonated meat for 59.90 kroner, significantly undercutting competitor pricing across Norwegian grocery chains, Nettavisen reported. The same package costs 90.90 kroner at Kiwi, bringing the price difference to 31 kroner per item and slashing the cost by 74.50 kroner per kilogram. Customers face a purchase limit of five packages per transaction under the current promotion.
The price war involves several major domestic chains fighting for market share on traditional weekend dinner ingredients. Industry veteran Odd Gisholt noted that price disparities on standard taco components remain wide across competing storefronts. Shoppers who time their purchases for a Monday can secure an additional six percent Trumf bonus through the Joker Glad membership program. This brings the final cost down to roughly 56 kroner for a 400-gram portion.
Bunnpris Maintains Sixty-Kroner Fixed Pricing on Ground Meat
Bunnpris offers a competitive alternative with a fixed price of 60 kroner for 400 grams of standard ground meat. The chain has maintained aggressive pricing on these specific meat products since 2014. Christian Lykke, Bunnpris-eier, addressed the commercial strategy behind the continuous discounting. Deig is important for Norwegians, Lykke said, noting its presence in domestic staples like taco, pizza, and spaghetti bolognese.
When asked how long the discount structure would remain active, Lykke stated that the 60 and 70 kroner prices would last until they do not anymore. Secondary options at Bunnpris include promotional listings of the same Folkets brand at 79.90 kroner. This remains 20 kroner higher than the lowest tier available at rival locations.
Rema 1000 and Kiwi Pricing Variations Across Competing Brands
Rema 1000 prices Nordfjord ground meat at 64.90 kroner for 400 grams, establishing a kiloprice of 162.25 kroner. Kiwi lists Folkets ground meat at 79.80 kroner, resulting in a kiloprice approaching 200 kroner. Gigaboks provides the lowest absolute kiloprice at 149.50 kroner, though shoppers must purchase two-kilogram quantities to access the rate. Proprietary store brands fail to undercut the lowest market tiers, with Norfersk-produced items at Kiwi retailing at 64.90 kroner for standard ground meat and 77.90 kroner for carbonated varieties.
