I was very excited to set foot on the land of my ancestral country again. I also saw the take-off of my ancestral country and it became a prosperous and powerful country. So when we are abroad, as Chinese, we can also hold our chests high.
[Commentary]Li Meijuan, whose ancestral home is Taishan, Guangdong, was still very excited when talking about the feeling of returning to her motherland. As one of the important birthplaces of Cantonese culture and Cantonese, Zhaoqing has accumulated many cultural treasures such as Duan Inkstone Culture, Dragon Mother Culture, and Zen Culture. Recently, the 4th World Cantonese People’s Friendship Conference was held in Zhaoqing, Guangdong, inviting overseas Cantonese folks to visit many Guangfu cultural and historical sites such as the Deqing Yuecheng Longmu Ancestral Temple, Duan Inkstone Museum, and Yuejiang Tower.
[Explanation]Zhaoqing is known as the “Inkstone Capital of China”. When you walk into the Duan Inkstone Museum, the history of Duan Inkstone comes to mind. Many Guangfu folks took photos in front of the exquisite Duan Inkstone. In the Duan Inkstone Studio outside the museum, craftsmen hold carving knives to demonstrate their inkstone carving skills.

I have never felt that there are so many different types of ink stands, and it is not easy to see them (ancient people) working very hard to dig out (inkstones) and then make them. I think this is the pride of a Chinese person.
[Explanation]Dragon Mother culture has great influence and cohesion among overseas Chinese in the Xijiang River Basin, the Pearl River Delta, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and even overseas. Many overseas Guangfu folks came to Deqing Yuecheng Dragon Mother Ancestral Temple to worship. “Mother’s ritual, dragon’s virtue, and ancestry from all over the world” inherit the spiritual connotation of the Chinese nation and embody the core belief of national affinity and cohesion. Zhong Rong, vice president of the Australian Zhaoqing Friendship Association, said that Cantonese people also have strong cohesion overseas.

During this year’s Spring Festival, our Zhaoqing Friendship Association held a banquet for 55 tables in a restaurant in Sydney. It was quickly sold out and many people bought it because of the attraction of Cantonese people. Not only us high-ranking people and Zhaoqing people come to buy, but also other (Guangfu people) associations come to support us. Everyone supports each other in (overseas) associations.
[Explanation]Guangfu culture is the “root” and “soul” that connects the majority of Guangfu people with their hometown. Zhong Rong said that Cantonese people create their own happy lives overseas with the spirit of daring to venture and fight. At the same time, they continue to spread Cantonese culture and let it take root overseas.

Everyone wants to pass on the (Guangfu) culture of past dynasties. Every festive festival will be celebrated with lion dancing and gongs and drums. Even when a store opens, there will be (celebrations). This is the (inheritance of) culture.
[Explanation]Li Meijuan said that although the vast number of Guangfu folks at home and abroad are in different countries and regions, they always care about the motherland and their hometown. In her view, China’s initiative to jointly build the “Belt and Road” is great because the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” seeks common development and win-win cooperation.

Our Guangfu Association donated anti-epidemic materials to our motherland (during the epidemic). Although we are abroad, we still have our motherland in our hearts. The vision of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative is broad and international. It not only promotes the development of one country, but also drives the development of the whole world. This is great.
[Explanation]Along the way, folks from Guangfu, both at home and abroad, checked in and took photos. “I didn’t expect the changes to be so drastic and the development to be so good.” This is what the reporter heard most from the folks from Guangfu at home and abroad. They all expressed their hope to bring the development of their motherland back to their countries of residence, and also called on young people overseas to return to their motherland more often.

What I saw was all aspects of transportation. The bridges have changed a lot and transportation is very convenient. Especially in Zhaoqing, the natural environment is well protected.
