Guardians vs. Cubs: Exciting 10th Inning Win for Cleveland on Sunday

CHICAGO — Josh Naylor hit a two-run single in the 10th inning and the Cleveland Guardians regrouped and beat the Chicago Cubs 8-6 on Sunday following All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase blew a lead of four runs in the ninth.

Aaron Civale pitched three-hit ball in six innings following the start of the game was delayed nearly two hours due to rain. Venezuelan Andrés Giménez homered in the third and scored the go-ahead run in the 10th.

Giménez led off the inning as an automatic runner at second and advanced on Amed Rosario’s single. Jose Ramirez’s groundout left runners on second and third before Naylor singled up the middle off Adbert Alzolay (1-4) to put Cleveland back up 8-6.

Sam Hentges (1-0) retired all three batters in the bottom half, handing the Cubs their sixth loss in seven games.

For the Guardians, Venezuelan Andrés Giménez 4-2, with three runs scored, two produced. Dominican José Ramírez 5-0, Amed Rosario 5-2, two runs scored and two RBIs.

For the Cubs, the Dominican Christopher Morel 5-3, one scored and three RBIs. Brazilian Yan Gomes 4-1, one scored.
