Hamas Demands End to Israeli War in Gaza for Safe Return of Hostages: Latest Updates

Gaza: Senior Hamas spokesman Usama Hamdan says Israel must end the war against Gaza if the hostages are to be returned alive. He told the media in Beirut that there would be no further talks on the release of hostages until the end of the war.

‘The failure of the Israeli army to locate the hostages is proof of their total failure. You cannot capture hostages alive through military action. So don’t try it. Your every move is only endangering their lives’ – Hamdan said while addressing the Israeli authorities.

Netanyahu’s goal in Gaza is unachievable. They will not succeed in that. Netanyahu will end up on trial and in prison. “The return of Israeli soldiers in Gaza will be either killed or wounded,” he warned.

With the US vetoing the UN Security Council to block a cease-fire resolution, Biden and his administration are complicit in the genocide of the Palestinians. The Israeli army’s detention and stripping of Palestinians in northern Gaza is an attempt to destroy the self-esteem of the Palestinian people. Israel’s manhunt in Jenin on Tuesday is a move to quell resistance in the occupied West Bank. The Hamas spokesman also pointed out that in the past two days, the Israeli army has carried out 25 massacres in Gaza alone.

The Israeli government spokesman, Eilon Levy, told reporters the other day that 137 hostages captured from Israel on October 7 are still in the hands of Hamas. Among them 117 are male and 20 are female. Hamas released 110 of the 247 hostages taken during the ceasefire. 86 Israelis and 24 foreign nationals were released. The four who went missing before the war are suspected to be in the hands of Hamas.

If the hostages are to be released, Hamas demands the release of more than 7,000 Palestinians, including women and children, who have been imprisoned by Israel for years. In 2011, Israel released more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the release of Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier held hostage by Hamas.

Of the hostages held by Hamas, 126 are Israelis and 11 are foreign nationals. Eight Thais, one Nepali, one Tanzanian and one French-Mexican national are foreigners. Two children, a ten-month-old and a four-year-old, are also held hostage. Hamas said that they were killed in an Israeli attack in Gaza and that they would hand over their bodies to Israel. Hamas leader and Gaza’s former health minister Basim Na’im has said that they are ready to release all the Israeli soldiers they have imprisoned in exchange for all the Palestinian prisoners imprisoned by Israel.
