Nine dead in violent protests after power change in Peru – Peru

A week following President Pedro Castillo was removed from office, the situation in Peru has deteriorated. After bloody clashes on Wednesday, interim President Dina Boluarte declared a state of emergency across the country for 30 days and promised early elections next year to appease the demonstrators. Nine people have died in violent protests and roadblocks, local media reported. Two were minors, three were just 18 and one was 19. According to the ombudswoman, seven were shot dead. The human rights organization Amnesty International called on the security forces not to use excessive force.
