Green climate protection spokesman corrects Babler’s statements on, among other things, renewable heat law and transport policy

Vienna (OTS) –
“After a cautious outing as a climate protector, SPÖ party leader Andreas Babler went into reverse again in his inaugural interviews and went to the concreters,” comments Lukas Hammer, climate protection spokesman for the Green Party, on Babler’s latest statements on climate policy.

“After just a few months at the top of the SPÖ, instead of bold announcements, Babler is only coming out with old standby sentences like “we need new technologies.” Waiting for a technological Christmas miracle will not be enough for climate protection and energy independence. It’s about using and expanding renewables correctly. When it comes to climate policy, Babler almost sounds like his Lower Austrian governor – and that’s not a compliment,” says Hammer.

It is a great shame that the SPÖ chairman is deliberately spreading untruths about clean heating and thus unnecessarily unsettling people. “In addition to the ban on installing fossil fuel heaters in new buildings, we have decided on the largest and most socially effective funding program for heating replacement, in which people with low incomes receive up to 100 percent funding. All further measures within the framework of the Renewable Heat Act (EWG) are particularly on “The SPÖ’s resistance failed. With his statements today, Babler confirms that the Social Democrats apparently never wanted the legislative package. But perhaps the message is aimed at the comrades in Vienna who are working on a mandatory gas heating ban by 2040,” says Hammer firmly.

Hammer also doesn’t agree with Babler’s statements regarding public transport. Because many mistakes were made in transport policy, especially in the sometimes red government past. “While hundreds of kilometers of rail were torn out under the red transport minister, more and more motorways were built. Public transport was partly starved. Since Climate Minister Leonore Gewessler took office, the tide has turned. Instead of destructive motorway projects, the focus is on expanding the “We are investing over 21 billion euros in the next six years on expansion so that public transport becomes more attractive,” emphasizes Hammer in conclusion.
