Handball World Cup: Sweden drive 300 meters to the hall – with the team bus! | Sports

This action should not only cause astonishment among climate protectors…

Handball-European champion Sweden drives at the Home World Cup by bus to the games in Gothenburg – although the team lives only 300 meters from the hall!

Reason for the climate trash: Swedish TV really wants to have footage of the players getting off the bus!

“Three crowns” coach Glenn Solberg (50) to the Swedish “Aftonbladet”: “It has to do with television. They want pictures of us getting off the bus.”

For the national team, however, posing when getting off is nothing new: the Solberg team also had to take the bus to the games at the European Championships in Slovakia’s capital Bratislava in 2022 – at that time the hotel was also right next to the hall.

The bus ride has the advantage “that we can focus on the essentials,” said Solberg.

After all, you have “no time for 55 selfies,” said playmaker Jim Gottfridsson (30) from SG Flensburg-Handewitt: “After the games, autographs and photos are no problem.”

What does Sweden’s model climate protector Greta Thunberg (20) say about it?

The short, not-so-environmentally-friendly trip sparked a debate on Twitter. Some Swedish fans complained that Jim Gottfridsson’s statements were disrespectful.

“If they already have a home World Cup, then you can at least go to the fans and give us autographs. So it’s a cheek,” writes a Sweden fan on Twitter.

Another commented under the Aftonbladet report: “Incredible. We discuss environmental protection and then take the bus the 300 meters? This is a bad joke!”

World Cup co-hosts Sweden start on Thursday against Brazil to the tournament, which takes place in Poland and Scandinavia. In Group C we’ll face Uruguay and the Cape Verde Islands.
