15 months after his dismissal at Hannover 96, Jan Zimmermann (43) is a hot candidate at Borussia Dortmund II.
The talks have progressed. Zimmermann is to inherit Christian Preusser (39), who was released on Monday.

Zimmermann should save the Dortmund reserve from relegation from the 3rd division. The first two games would be particularly explosive for the new coach.
Dortmund plays Saturday against 1. FC Saarbrücken with Rüdiger Ziehl (45), who followed Zimmermann as coach at TSV Havelse in 2021. Zimmermann sensationally got promoted to the 3rd division with Havelse, then switched to Hannover 96.
Zimmermann would play the second game with Dortmund II a week later (February 19) at RW Essen with Christoph Dabrowski (44). After Zimbo’s dismissal in Hanover, Dabro became his successor in December 2021, and was then replaced by Stefan Leitl (45) at the end of the season.

Zimmermann moved from Hanover to Dusseldorf during his coaching break, and had repeated inquiries (including Osnabrück, Aue), most recently from Halle.
But he canceled the HFC – because he is now signing in Dortmund?
At BVB, Zimmermann would work closely with two other ex-96ers. He once played with manager Sebastian Kehl in the junior national team. Otto Addo, Ghana’s national coach at the World Cup, is back as a talent coach.
