The streets in Hanover were full on Friday. “Fridays for Future” (FFF) demonstrated through the city – and because of the warning strikes at Üstra, more people were dependent on cars.
The police had therefore advised in advance to refrain from driving a car. Around 10 a.m., ver.di members marched from the Üstra depot in Glocksee to Goseriedeplatz. There they met with demonstrators from the climate movement “Fridays for Future” to hold a joint rally with them. “The fight for climate protection goes hand in hand with the fight for social justice,” said “Fridays for Future” in Göttingen, for example, in justifying the cooperation.
Üstra warning strikes: standstill for buses and trains
Ver.di emphasized: In order for there to be attractive public transport, the working conditions for drivers would have to improve. In addition, wages must be good enough to make the profession more attractive again. Anyone who wants more people to get on public buses must also ensure that enough drivers are willing to drive these buses. In order to emphasize the demands, the union had called for warning strikes at Üstra. Buses and trains should stand still until 1 a.m. on Saturday night.
