Hattie Dynevor failed to secure a role after auditioning for Coronation Street, despite her mother, Sally Dynevor, portraying Sally Metcalfe on the soap opera for four decades, Digital Spy reported.
- Hattie Dynevor confirmed she auditioned for a part on Coronation Street as a fostered child, but ultimately did not get the role.
- Addressing industry labels, she noted that both she and her sister Phoebe face frequent “nepo baby” accusations despite their mother having no direct casting influence.
- Both sisters launched their professional acting careers with roles in the BBC drama series Waterloo Road.
Speaking to The Sun, Hattie addressed the persistent label attached to her family name. “Me and Phoebe have always had that comment ‘nepo baby’,” the actor stated. “Everyone’s so quick to say that, but like my mum always said, if she could get herself in a Netflix show, she’d be doing that.”
She added that parental presence in the industry offers limited functional advantage inside casting rooms. “She can’t do anything to help us really. Maybe she could get us a foot in the door, but ultimately, I have to do the work and I have to put the time in – it’s down to me,” Hattie explained.
To demonstrate that family pedigree guarantees nothing in casting decisions, she pointed to her own unsuccessful bid to join the long-running ITV soap. “I would never rule it out – I actually auditioned for Corrie, but I didn’t get it,” she said, offering a humorous angle on the hypothetical casting: “Imagine if Sally fostered a child and then it was her actual child.”
Beyond the cobbles of Weatherfield, Hattie’s television credits continue to grow following her early work on the BBC series Waterloo Road as Libby Gutherie.
She appeared as Arabella in the opening episode of the Netflix thriller Legends, which debuted its first season in May and features a cast including Tom Burke, Steve Coogan, Hayley Squires, and Aml Ameen. The series dramatizes early 1990s customs investigations into British drug-smuggling rings and has already secured a second-season renewal.
Meanwhile, her sister Phoebe Dynevor maintains a high-profile slate of film projects. Having previously starred as Daphne in the debut season of Netflix’s Bridgerton, Phoebe stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Ashley Walters in the upcoming thriller Remain. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the film follows an architect dealing with depression who relocates to Cape Cod and encounters a mysterious woman played by Dynevor.
