Haunted Hotel Season 3 Cast, Plot, and More: Is It Renewed?

Netflix has not yet officially renewed the adult animated supernatural sitcom Haunted Hotel for a third season, leaving fans waiting past the one-week renewal window that secured its sophomore run in September 2025.

The eight-episode second season debuted on October 9, 2026, arriving just in time for the Halloween season. Unlike its predecessor, which landed a swift renewal exactly one week after its September 2025 premiere, the show’s latest outing has encountered a slower path at streaming giant Netflix. According to reporting by whats-on-netflix.com, the delay stems from viewership figures trailing behind the first season’s opening week. While Season 1 drew 1.8 million views in its first seven days, Season 2 has yet to clear that benchmark, appearing in the daily top 10 lists of 36 countries compared to 59 countries for the launch of Season 1.

Haunted Hotel Season 3 Already Written But Will Netflix Actually Let It Happen?

Scripts Ready for Season 3

Despite the pending renewal status, creator and showrunner Matt Roller confirmed in an interview on The Bulwark Goes to Hollywood podcast with Sonny Bunch that the writers’ room has already finished the scripts for a potential third season. Yeah, we have it all. And I’m very excited about it, Roller told Bunch. I would love to make it because it is very strong and will be built based on season two, in a way, just like season two is dependent on season one. Roller outlined an ambitious target for the show’s return if greenlit, aiming for a release before Halloween 2027 to preserve an annual spooky-season scheduling cycle. He explained that Netflix typically waits to analyze audience metrics before committing funds, which creates a production bottleneck for animated series that require roughly 18 months to animate.

Unresolved Plotlines from Season 2

The second season concluded with several major narrative threads left hanging. The finale featured the deadly black forest threatening to consume the Undervale Hotel. Esther, voiced by Natalie Palamides, used a childhood mending spell to repair a magical red lantern and halt the forest’s advance. The episode also depicted the apparent death of cursed mortal and demon hunter Dante Crowe at the hands of Katherine Freeling, played by Eliza Coupe. Katherine subsequently prophesied that Esther will serve as humanity’s future savior, setting up an inevitable clash with her best friend Abaddon—a demon trapped inside the body of a 17th-century child, voiced by Jimmi Simpson. The finale shed light on the suicide of Uncle Nathan, portrayed by Will Forte, revealing how his untreated depression left him isolated before he ultimately found a measure of peace in the afterlife.
