McDonalds a closed its restaurants in Russia, in response to the invasion of Ukraine… much to the dismay of some. Tuesday evening in Moscow, several customers rushed to fast food to eat before closing. A man filled his entire refrigerator with McDonald’s burgers. A photo was posted on the social network Reddit.

Many Internet users commented on the image, with humor. “They will last twenty years with all the chemicals they contain”, can we read in particular. Some see it as a “good business opportunity” if the man sells the burgers. “If it’s not for personal consumption, it’s definitely a good business opportunity to sell stale burgers at an exorbitant price,” someone commented, as reported The Independent. The newspaper reports that on Russian classifieds sites, several people are trying to sell bags of food and sauces. Some burgers were bought for 150 US dollars (136 euros).
9% of McDonald’s group turnover
Russia accounts for 9% of McDonald’s Group revenue and 3% of operating profit, according to the HuffPost.
Company President and CEO Chris Kempczinski said, “In Russia, we employ 62,000 people who have invested their hearts and souls in the McDonald’s brand to serve their communities. We work with hundreds of local Russian suppliers and partners who produce our menu foods and support our brand. And we serve millions of Russian customers who rely on McDonald’s every day.”
Other Russians also rushed to brands like Ikea to buy furniture, before the Swedish giant decided to close its stores.
