Roberto Listro is from Rosario and has lived in Puerto Madryn since 2015. He is diving guide and photographer specialized in underwater and wildlife images. His routine takes place in this jewel of the coast of Chubut, facing the sea. And because of his work, he immerses himself daily and captures the incredible images that he shares in this note. And that counts like this.

The encounter with the sea lions: “It was wonderful”

«Diving with sea lions takes place in the reserve Punta Loma, from the city of Puerto Madryn, between about 3 and 4 meters deep. It is a protected area, therefore there are certain rules to respect, one of them being do not go near the coast so as not to interfere with their behavior,” he says.

It is a permanent colony, the females, puppies and juveniles live there all year round., with the exception of adult male sea lions, which remain from October to March, which is the reproduction stage. Then they migrate to the coasts of Buenos Aires.

«Due to their behavior, males do not usually come close to interact with people as they are not so curious, only females and juveniles do it«he adds.

“Therefore, “Being lucky enough to see the males so close, along with their group of females, is something wonderful.”keep going.

Seeing them free, in their natural environment and behavior, without doing anything to get them closer, just waiting, is one of the most gratifying sensations we can have, reminding us daily of the importance of taking care of each species.

Jellyfish: “As if time stopped”

«As for the jellyfish video, I filmed it on different diving excursions that we did in Puerto Madryn, more precisely in Punta Cuevas and the Urabain Shipwreck. It is not common to see them in the area, since 2017 they have not been seen within the Golfo Nuevo.

They normally live in the open sea, and Every certain number of years a sea current enters them into the Gulf.

It is incredible to dive among jellyfish, it is as if time stops while admiration invades us. Seeing them move with such elegance is something difficult to explain, they are one of those things that you have to experience to know what it feels like. Although I am lucky to see them diving daily, I always take a few minutes to enjoy their visit to our area.
