Proven archaeological discoveries establish a chronology of the appearance of music between -100,000 and -10,000 years. Some instruments have been found on various sites; others not… Many hypotheses therefore circulate, as well as certainties. The French ethnologist, archaeologist and historian André Leroi-Gourhan, thinker of techniques and culture, thus published in 1965 a work entitled “Memory and rhythms”. Flint knapping undoubtedly induced a regular rhythmic practice, introducing a rhythmic culture into the brand new consciousness of Homo Sapiens.
Professional musician on many instruments, Serge Bulot collected a large collection of these objects during his many travels around the world. For 22 years, he has organized exhibitions-concerts around the world (from Lebanon to the United States), as he has just done in Coulaures. Serge Bulot hopes in the future, thanks to his knowledge of the original instruments, to be able to continue his adventures with the museums dedicated to prehistory in the Dordogne.
