Head of State commemorates 2 years of the physical disappearance of José “Chino” Khan

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, in a message broadcast on the social network Twitter, commemorated the 2 years since the physical departure of the revolutionary leader José “Chino” Khan, thus extolling his fight for justice and social equality.

“Two years after his physical departure, we remember the popular struggles undertaken by our comrade, José “Chinese” Khan, who was characterized by his leadership and great revolutionary spirit, irreverent, honest and hard-working,” said the National President.

On August 12, 2020, the revolutionary leader José Salamat Khan Fernández, known as “El Chino”, died. He had been suffering from heart problems and was in intensive care at a health center in Caracas.

“El Chino”, who was an economist graduated from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), was born in Anzoátegui state in 1953, into a family committed to the fight for equality.

During the government of Commander Hugo Chávez, he directed the Ministry of Basic Industries and Mining on two occasions: (2006-2008 and 2010-2011), he was also Director of the Central Bank of Venezuela from March 4, 2008.

He also held positions such as:

-President of the Commission for the Restoration of Cultural Heritage of the National Assembly.

-Director of the Cardiovascular Foundation of the National Assembly.

-President of the Venezuela/United Kingdom Friendship Group.

-Director of the National Assembly Parliamentary Welfare Institute.

-President of the Special Commission for the problems of the Medical Guild Sector.

-Member of the Mercosur Parliamentary Commission.

-Member of the Permanent Commission for Comprehensive Social Development (2003-2006)

.-President of the Permanent Commission for Comprehensive Social Development (2002)

-Vice President of the Permanent Commission for Comprehensive Social Development (2000-2001).

-Elected as main deputy to the National Assembly by the list of the MVR in representation of the Capital District 2000-2006, 2006-2011.

-Secretary of the Social Policy and Citizen Participation Commission of the National Legislative Commission 1999.

-President of the Social Affairs Commission of the former Congress of the Republic (1999).

-Deputy of the Congress of the Republic of Venezuela during the 1999 legislative period.

Administrator of the Faculty of Medicine of the Central University of Venezuela.

-President of the Association of Administrative Employees of the UCV.

-President of the Commission for the Administration of Foreign Exchange (Cadivi) since August 2013.
