Health discusses a UN study on the impact of climate change on the world

Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Acting Minister of Health and Population received, on Sunday evening, Frederica Mayer, the country representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and her accompanying delegation, to discuss cooperation in the health sector.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the meeting discussed a study prepared by the United Nations Population Fund, on evaluating the impact of climate change on women, girls, and reproductive health in Egypt.

The minister listened to a detailed explanation about the general objective of the study, the procedures, indicators, follow-up and evaluation required. He also discussed the possibility of cooperating with the (UNFPA) to conduct the study through the relevant sectors of the ministry such as the sectors (preventive medicine, family planning, health care and nursing).

Abdel Ghaffar explained that the two sides discussed the importance of integrating gender into specific strategies on climate change, with a special focus on the impact of reproductive health on climate change, in addition to discussing the latest developments in the development of family planning and reproductive health activities in Egypt.

He pointed out that the minister discussed with the delegation the procedures for the scope of the study’s work, the field of data exchange and confidentiality, in addition to discussing the main activities and the timetable, and field work procedures, to collect case studies, within the strategies for implementing the study’s objectives.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Tariq Tawfiq, Deputy Minister of Health for Population Affairs, Dr. Wael Abdel Razek, Head of the Health Care and Nursing Sector, and Dr. Hossam Abbas, Head of the Family Planning Sector.
