Health Minister François Braun announces an increase in hospital prices

This decision will affect both public and private hospitals. As far as public hospitals are concerned, the rates billed to Social Security go increase by 7.06% in 2023. This increase will be higher than that of 2022, which was 2.3%. According to the Ministry of Health and Prevention, this increase is needed to help hospitals meet the rising costs of healthcare services. As for private establishments, the price increases will be lower, but still significant. Non-profit establishments are expected to see an increase of 6.7%, while that of lucrative establishments will be 5.4%.

The Minister of Health clarified that this increase in hospital prices reflects the national health insurance and healthcare facilities spending target, which is now increased to €101.1 billion. This increase represents an increase of 3.3 billion euros compared to the previous year. This price increase will also allow finance measures to improve the quality of care, in particular by increasing the number of staff and investing in infrastructure.

Indeed, these sharply rising prices include 2.4 billion euros to deal with the evolution of the current resources of the establishmentsespecially in a exceptional context of inflation in 2023and one billion for the extension to a full year of the revaluation of the index point for hospital civil servants from July 2022. In addition, 400 million euros will be dedicated to the continuation of commitments of the Ségur de la santé and €600 million to finance measures to increase night work for public health establishments (source 1).
