Heat peak: why is the MRI going into orange warning this Monday?

Even if in theory a heat wave in Belgium is proven when during 5 days, the temperature of the reference station (Uccle) is equal to or higher than 25°C including 3 days with 30°C; aA climatological heat wave can also be activated when the temperature is equal to or greater than 32°C for 3 days.

However, thehe Royal Meteorological Institute places the whole of our country in orange.

The temperature forecast in Uccle this Sunday will be 27°C. Monday’s 35°C. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature forecast is 38°C.

But on Wednesday, the temperature drops (fortunately) to 27°C.

The conditions are not met for a heat wave to be confirmed.

After several exchanges with the Royal Meteorological Institute, a HIGH HEAT warning can be induced either by a wave but also by a heat peak.

Indeed, when the forecast temperature reaches or exceeds 35°C, the IRM has the possibility of warning us by activating the orange warning.
