Heat record broken in Mallorca
Summer, beach, sun – and plenty of the latter… Mallorca is cooking at record temperatures!
The heat wave has been keeping Mallorca in a headlock for days, and it reached its peak last weekend: at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) in Palma, the thermometer climbed to 41.9 degrees on Saturday. It has never been this hot on any other day this year!
The last time it was hottest was on July 25 in the municipality of Montuïri, when 40.4 degrees were measured.
In addition to the unbearable heat, hot winds also hit the islanders and tourists, including on the coasts: “There’s really no cooling down, because even the water has now reached a temperature of over 30 degrees,” says qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung from Wetter.net to IMAGE.
The long-awaited cooling did not happen during the night either: Sunday night was the hottest of the summer so far. In Palma and Banyalbufar the night temperatures were 32 degrees!
There was also a new heat record on Mallorca’s neighboring island: According to the Spanish weather service “Aemet”, 44.5 degrees were registered on Formentera on Saturday. The highest value so far on the Balearic Islands! The previous leader was 44.2 degrees in Muro, Mallorca, on July 3, 1994.
In the coming week there will be at least a slight breather for the favorite island of the Germans: From Monday the temperatures will drop to 34 degrees, Tuesday to 31 degrees. But cool is different.
