Four warnings hang high Rare in Xiamen
Yesterday afternoon, under the influence of the confluence of cold and warm air, strong convective weather occurred in Xiamen area, with heavy rain in many areas, and even strong convective weather such as small hail. Four meteorological warnings for fog, hail, torrential rain and lightning were suspended at the same time. Meteorological experts said that the weather with four warnings issued at the same time is still relatively rare in Xiamen.
The rainfall brought by this strong convective weather is mainly concentrated in four areas outside the island. From 16:00 to 17:00 yesterday, in just one hour, there were many stations in the city with a rainfall exceeding 25 mm. The station with the largest rainfall was located in Daban Mountain, Guankou Town, Jimei, and 43.7 mm of rain fell in one hour. As of 22:00 yesterday, the rainfall on Mount Daban in Guankou Town, Jimei has reached 68.7 mm.
Around 16:30 yesterday, in Jimei, Tong’an and other places, the first hailstorm this year fell from the sky. Small hailstones smashed down, some more than 1 cm in diameter. This hailstorm is local and short-lived. Meteorological experts said that most of the hail weather in Xiamen occurs from March to May, with the majority in May.
Cold and warm air competition spawns strong convective weather
This strong convective weather comes from the contest between cold and warm air. Affected by the warm and humid airflow, the temperature in Xiamen has risen significantly. Yesterday afternoon, the maximum temperature at the Xiamen National Basic Meteorological Station was 26.9°C, an increase of 7.6°C from the previous day, and the maximum temperature at many stations was even close to 30°C.
At the same time as the temperature rises, the humidity increases. Yesterday, the entire city of Xiamen was enveloped by abundant water vapor. The relative humidity remained at about 99% for a long time, and the visibility continued to decline. There was obvious foggy weather in Xiamen, and the visibility was less than 100 in some areas. foggy weather. In the early morning of yesterday, the visibility of Xiamen National Basic Weather Station was always below 100 meters, and it was only 62 meters at 6:00 yesterday. Due to the rise in temperature, accompanied by sufficient water vapor, the phenomenon of “returning to the south sky” appears indoors.
By yesterday afternoon, the front of the cold air gradually penetrated, and the warm and cold air intersected fiercely, giving birth to this strong convective weather. As the cold air gradually occupies the sky over Xiamen, the cold air carries the north wind southward, driving away the warm and humid air current entrenched in the sky above Xiamen.

Rain continued until March 30 with large temperature fluctuations
From today onwards, the cold air will be overwhelming and the temperature will drop. During the day today, the maximum temperature drop at the Xiamen National Basic Meteorological Station reached 8°C to 9°C, with northeasterly winds of magnitude 4-5 and gusts of magnitude 7, with showers or thunderstorms.
This cold air is expected to affect until March 29. In the next two days, Xiamen will be cloudy to cloudy, with showers or thunderstorms, and local heavy rain. During the period of the cold air, the temperature in Xiamen is lower at night, the minimum temperature will drop to 13 ℃ tomorrow, and the maximum temperature during the day will be between 22 ℃ and 24 ℃.
The current round of rain will continue until March 30. From March 30th to 31st, the influence of cold air was temporarily suspended, and the temperature rose slightly. By the evening of March 31, a new wave of cold air will strike again, and the temperature will drop again.
So far this year, the cumulative rainfall in Xiamen has reached 327.6 mm, which is a significant increase compared with the annual average of 232 mm. Days of rain flooded the reservoirs in Xiamen.
