Violent thunderstorms hit eastern Switzerland on Thursday evening. Large amounts of water spilled locally in a short time, MeteoNews and SRF Meteo said on Twitter on Friday. Hail also fell in places.
The cantons of Zurich, Thurgau and the Appenzell region were the most affected. 59.3 millimeters of rain fell in Tänikon (TG) in the last 24 hours, 55.2 mm in Wiesendangen (ZH), 37.2 mm in Urnäsch (AR) and 34.5 mm in Winterthur (ZH) .
More than 540 flashes were counted in Thurgau alone. A strong wind will set in on Friday in Switzerland, especially in the west of the country. Sunny spells will develop in the followingnoon. The weather will become a little more pleasant during the weekend.
