The heavy rains that have fallen in recent hours have the municipalities of the Urabá subregion on alert due to the increase in the flow of the rivers, which in some localities already leaves a series of floods and communities incommunicado.
According to Corpourabá, an environmental entity that is part of the municipal Risk Management councils of that subregion, the district of Turbo and the municipalities of Apartadó, Carepa, Chigorodó and Murindó they are the most affected by the recent downpours.
Murindó
To date, the most critical situation has been reported in Murindó, where the flooding of the river of the same name caused a palisade that blocked the tributary in about three kilometers.
“This phenomenon affected the communities of Bartolo, Legiada, Canal, Pital, No hay como Dios and Murindó Viejo. There are 85 families affected with 94 people affected”, indicated César Mena, coordinator of the Territorial Atrato, of Corpourabá.
The official added that there are also five affected indigenous communities: Cuagua, Chimiadó, Bachidul, Coredó and Islands. In these 255 families and 932 people are confined.
“These indigenous communities they are totally incommunicado since their mobility depends on the river,” added Mena, who also reported damage to crops and livestock farms.
The territorial coordinator also stated that during the municipal council on Risk Management, the Mayor’s Office of Murindó evaluated the situation and will decree Public Calamity “since this event exceeds their response capacity.”
Meanwhile, Jaime Enrique Gómez, director of the Dagran, pointed out that while a crisis room is being carried out in Medellín, a team from the entity is doing a flight over Murindó.
Apartadó
On the other hand, in the municipality of Apartadó, the rising of the river that bears the same name caused flooding in the upper part of the neighborhoods El Concejo and San Fernando.
Similarly, in the rural area, floods are reported due to the overflow of the Vijagual River in the Churidó district and the Mataguadua, San Pablo, Diamante, Punto Rojo and Casa Verde villages, as well as floods in properties adjacent to the road that leads from Apartadó to Carepa.
The Dagran reported, in a preliminary way, 15 homes flooded in that municipality.
Pedro Villegas, deputy director of Planning and Territorial Ordering of Corpourabá added that in Apartadó there are also reports of landslides in the village of La Victoria that block the road that leads to the area. Likewise, there is undermining of the slope of the El Cuchillo stream in the San José de Apartadó sector.
Despite the fact that the rains have decreased in recent hours, the Mayor’s Office of that town decreed Orange Alert to “activate all operational groups and have their response capacity to deal with emergencies,” the Apartadó Mayor’s Office said in a statement.
Other municipalities
in the district of Turbo, floods were also reported after the overflow of the Rio Grande. In the corregimientos of Currulao, El Tres, Río Grande and Nueva Colonia were affected, in that municipality, according to Dagran, material damage has not yet been reported.
For its part, in Carepa, the overflow of the Vijagual river caused the sewer collapse causing flooding in various sectors of the urban area and in the villages of Casa Verde, Mi Lucha, Primavera, Bosque, and Los Almendros.
In that municipality, the rains also delayed the entry into operation of the Antonio Roldán Betancur airport this Sunday, It started work at 10:00 in the morning. In the next few hours he would decree Public Calamity in that locality.
Finally, in Chigorodó there is flooding in the veredas Veracruz 1 and El Coco.
