Gaza – A Hebrew channel reported, on Wednesday, that the assassination of 3 sons of the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian faction movement, Ismail Haniyeh, and a number of his grandchildren in the Gaza Strip, was carried out with a missile fired by an Israeli drone based on “accurate information” provided by the General Security Service, “Shin Bet.”
This came, according to what was reported by the private Hebrew Channel 14, after an Israeli air strike targeted a civilian car carrying members of the Haniyeh family in the Beach Camp, west of Gaza City.
The channel considered that “the elimination of Haniyeh’s family members constitutes another link in the chain of Israel’s pursuit of the Hamas leadership.”
It stated that the assassination “was carried out by an Air Force drone using a missile that was accurately fired at the car in which members of the Haniyeh family were traveling.”
According to the channel, “Haniyeh’s family was liquidated as a result of cooperation between the Fire Center in the Southern Command (of the Israeli army), the Air Force, and Shin Bet (the General Security Service), which provided accurate information.”
For its part, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority quoted an unnamed Israeli security official as saying that “the target of the assassination were Haniyeh’s three sons.”
In the first comment from an Israeli representative on the incident, Member of the Knesset (Parliament) Almog Cohen, from the extremist “Otzma Yehudit” party, said: “I received excellent news of the assassination of 3 of Ismail Haniyeh’s sons and two of his grandchildren.”
Cohen threatened Haniyeh in a televised statement reported by the newspaper “Israel Hayom” (Israel Today), saying: “You are next,” meaning that he is the next Israeli target for assassination.
Earlier Wednesday, eyewitnesses reported to an Anadolu correspondent that an Israeli air strike targeted a car carrying members of the Haniyeh family in the Beach Camp, who were going around to congratulate the camp residents and their relatives on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
Witnesses stated that the raid completely destroyed the car, killing and wounding everyone in it.
Meanwhile, medical sources told Anadolu Agency that the bombing resulted in the killing of 3 of Haniyeh’s sons: Hazem, Amir, and Muhammad, and a number of their sons, in addition to wounding others.
For its part, the government media office in Gaza confirmed, in a statement, that “the Israeli occupation army committed a massacre against the family of Ismail Haniyeh on the afternoon of the first day of Eid al-Fitr by bombing a car in which a number of his children and grandchildren were traveling. The victims of this massacre were five martyrs so far, in addition to a number of injuries.”
The office said, “The occupation army committed this massacre during a tour of the Haniyeh family, which was carrying out social and family visits on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.”
As for Haniyeh, he confirmed in video statements he made to Al Jazeera, after receiving the news on Wednesday, that the blood of his sons “is not more precious” than the blood of other martyrs who preceded them in the Israeli war on Gaza, which has entered its seventh month.
Eid al-Fitr fell this year while Israel was waging a devastating war on Gaza, leaving more than 100,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly, according to Palestinian and UN data.
