Henry Martín reached Chicharito’s mark after scoring against Atlas

Behind the Qatar World Cup 2022 and with the thorn stuck in sharing the scoring title in the Mexican tournament, Henry Martin He set himself a goal that he confessed to RECORD before starting the new contest: to be the bossy ‘killer’ of the country.

Yesterday, the Yucatecan scored his tenth goal in nine games played so far in the Closing 2023walking safely to the nation’s scoring crown.

However, it was not the only positive record for La Bomba, as he also became the first Mexican to score at least 10 goals in two consecutive tournaments in more than a decade, equaling another national figure: Javier Hernandez.

During the 2009 Apertura and the 2010 Bicentennial, Chicharito, still with Chivas, scored 11 and 10 goals respectively, before emigrating to Europe.

Now, Martín has 20 goals in the Regular Phase between the Opening 2022 and the Closing 2023, with 10 in each contest. However, his mark will increase, as he has barely played half a tournament.

And if the trend continues, Martín would become the first Mexican scorer since Alan Pulido, also from Chivas, won the individual title at the Apertura 2019, when he closed with 12 goals, sharing the top with Mauro Quiroga from Necaxa.
