HER HIGHNESS SHEIKHA MOZA OPENS THE 11TH EDITION OF THE WISE SUMMIT

Doha, Qatar (ots/PRNewswire) – Safeena Husain will receive the Wise Prize for Education 2023 for her work with Educate Girls

Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, delivered the opening speech at the 11th edition of the WISE Summit, held on November 28-29 in Doha, Qatar, with the theme “Creative Fluency: Human Flourishing in the Age of AI ” (Creative Competence: Human Development in the Age of AI) takes place.

“I want to ensure that WISE is a platform for new ideas that keep pace with the changes in the world and the barriers to education in certain countries – for reasons we know all too well,” said Her Highness Sheikha Moza. “There is no alternative to innovation if we want to find solutions to such difficult problems.”

During the opening event, Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chair and Executive Director of Qatar Foundation, awarded the prestigious WISE Prize for Education. This is the first global award of its kind given to an individual for outstanding achievements in the field of education. Husain was recognized for her 16 years of work building the nonprofit organization, which works to educate girls in some of India’s most remote villages.

Since its founding, Educate Girls has enrolled more than 1.4 million girls in school and supported the learning of over 1.9 million children. Thanks to precise AI-supported target group selection, Educate Girls can identify as many unschooled girls in just 5 years as would have been reached in 45 years using traditional methods. Through a network of over 21,000 community volunteers in some of the country’s poorest communities, the organization works to break the intergenerational cycle of inequality and exclusion.

Commenting on her award, Husain said: “This is a shared victory for all of us fighting for girls’ education – from the government and local communities to the dedicated gender champions and our supporters. The award also goes to a variety of initiatives that actively address this global challenge and work to ensure that every girl in every village can go to school and learn.

“Girls’ education is a promising approach to solving some of the world’s most complex problems. We must recognize the right to education as an innate right of girls – a right that must always be at the center.”
