Good news for WhatsApp fans! Meta (formerly known as Facebook) has finally listened to its users. Now you can manage two WhatsApp accounts on one phone. But, be careful, there are a few things to know.
WhatsApp, launched in 2009, had the primary mission of offering an alternative to traditional SMS. Surprisingly, unlike its current free model, the service was initially paid for. However, application pricing is a closed chapter, which no longer has relevance in the current context.
Since its debut, WhatsApp has allowed one account to be used across multiple devices, with a limit of four devices per account. For those who wanted to separate their professional and personal lives with two separate accounts, the situation was complex. Of course, solutions existed, particularly for users of Samsung smartphones who benefited from the “Dual Messenger” function. It was also possible to install WhatsApp Business alongside the classic application to have a second account.
Conditions for using two accounts in parallel
The announcement made by Mark Zuckerberg on his Facebook page has been clear: in the future, it will be possible to use two WhatsApp accounts on one and the same device. A significant step forward to avoid accidental disconnections, account confusion or even the need for some to have two separate smartphones.
However, everything is not so simple. To benefit from this new feature, two mandatory conditions must be met:
A separate number for each account : using two WhatsApp accounts requires a smartphone with dual SIM. These can be devices that accept two physical SIM cards or a combination of a physical SIM card and an eSIM. Regardless, a second number is essential, which could incur charges for some users.
Account Adding Process : once the previous conditions have been met, it is necessary to navigate to the WhatsApp settings. Simply click on the arrow next to the username, then select “Add account”. Each account can then be customized with separate privacy and notification settings.
