In mid-October, HV 71’s team captain Sanni Hakala had a serious accident in connection with the match between HV 71 and Djurgården in the SDHL.

Since then, profiles around the world have shown their support for the 26-year-old, who announced shortly following the accident that she was forced to end her hockey career, for a life in a wheelchair.

In Saturday’s SHL match between HV 71 and Skellefteå, Sanni Hakala was back on the ice in Husqvarna Garden for the first time, when she received cheers from the crowd before going down.

She was visibly moved when, in front of a standing ovation, she waved to the home crowd and was heard chanting her name in an alternating chorus.
