Windows 10 was updated today with a new lock screen widget page that incorporates features from the late MSN News, making the experience more dynamic. Now the NeoWin discovered that the same function is also available in the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview build.

According to the NeoWinthe feature was added in Windows 11 build 22631.3371 (KB5035942) which is now available to Windows Insiders in the Preview channel.

As we can see below, the widgets page is practically identical to that of Windows 10, but in Windows 11 it is aligned in the center to provide a more harmonious experience with the rest of the operating system.

Widget information includes weather, stocks, traffic and game scores, such as basketball, football, etc. There is still no option to configure which of them are displayed on the screen.

However, the widgets are not active by default and you need to use the ViveTool tool to enable them manually. To do this, follow the steps with your Windows updated to version 22631.3371 (KB5035942) or newer:

  • Download ViveTool on GitHub using the link below:
  • ViveTool – download
  • Extract ViveTool files into an easy-to-access folder;
  • Run Command Prompt as Administrator;
  • In the Command Prompt, run the following command “CD C:ViveTool” (enter the path of the folder where ViveTool was installed);
  • Type the following command and press Enter: “vivetool /enable /id:47921515,47921574”
  • Restart your computer;
  • Open Settings > Personalization > Lock screen > Lock screen status
  • Select the new “Weather and more” option

To see the widgets on the lock screen just press Windows screen + L.

He returned? Windows 10 update brings features from the late MSN

The new feature, if confirmed (it is a preview of a Build, after all, and the features can be removed if Microsoft wants), would be linked exclusively to the “closed screen” of Windows 10 – the one that appears as soon as you lock the your computer.

Windows Latest was able to test the build (via Release Preview Channel) and found that, although the cards themselves open within Edge, Microsoft’s idea is that, eventually, each clickable newsletter will open details in its dedicated apps – reports of traffic on Maps, for example – but you don’t know yet when that will arrive.

Finally, the Windows 10 settings menu will allow you to enable or disable the option if you don’t like it.

The new feature is similar to the Windows 11 widget news panel, which can also be disabled if you prefer, with the difference that, in Windows 11, you have to log in with your username and password first, to see the material in the Area of Work.

Unfortunately, there is no definitive date for the feature’s debut.
