With each new year, new resolutions… and new measures. Which ones come into force on January 1, 2024?

The price of tobacco is increasing

From the start of 2024, the price of tobacco will increase with inflation, as was announced at the end of November by Aurélien Rousseau, former Minister of Health. You will now have to pay 40 to 50 cents more to buy a pack of cigarettes. For certain brands, the increase will be even greater: a pack of 20 Malboro cigarettes will, for example, go from €11.50 to €12.50.

Change in pharmacy

New for sick leave

The measure announced in the PLFSS 2024 aimed at limit work stoppages prescribed in teleconsultation to 3 days has been validated and will therefore be implemented. It will still be possible to have a remote work stoppage with your attending physician, or by proving the impossibility of obtaining a physical appointment to renew the stoppage.

Also, it will now be possible to benefit from sick leave without a waiting day in the event of a miscarriage.

Measures for people with disabilities

In 2014, theaide MaPrimeAdapt’will allow elderly people or people with disabilities to benefit from financing for carrying out work to adapt their homes, such as replacing a bathtub with a shower or installing an electric stair lift.

Also, according to the government, “the ESAT workers (establishments or work assistance services) will benefit from new rights: individual rights (health supplement, payment of the transport bonus, the exceptional purchasing power bonus) and collective rights (right to strike, union representation, and intervention by the labor inspectorate). These workers will continue to benefit from ESAT protection and cannot be dismissed” (source 1).

The government also promises for 2024 the full reimbursement for wheelchairs.

Other measures for your health

Two experiments will be implemented in 2024: physical activity adapted for patients suffering from cancer, and a dedicated care pathway for postpartum depression. For better nutrition, in collective catering, 50% of products, and 60 % of meat and fish “must come from sustainable production or under official sign of quality and origin, and at least 20% must come from organic farming”, demands the government. In pregnant women, cytomegalovirus ( CMV) will be systematically screened. To better protect against domestic violence, specialized centers will be created in courts and courts of appeal.
