Hexcel Inaugurates its New Composite Materials Manufacturing Site in Morocco, Contributing to the Decarbonization of the Aeronautical Industry

Present in Morocco since 2016, Hexcel, the composite materials manufacturer, inaugurated on Wednesday May 10, 2023, in the presence of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, the extension of its nest materials processing site. light bees in machined parts of Casablanca, initially inaugurated in 2018.

Covering an area of ​​13,000 m2, this new building meets the growing demand for advanced composite materials. Attached to the existing factory in the free zone of Midparc, this extension will increase the area of ​​the site to 24,000 m2.

“This is an investment of 30 million dollars, which will make it possible by 2026 to employ 400 people. Hexcel manufactures very light composite materials for the aeronautics industry which reduce the fuel consumption of aircraft, and therefore contribute to the decarbonization of the global aeronautical industry,” said Thierry Merlot, President of Hexcel. – Aeronautics Europe Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa and Industry.

And to continue: “We arrived in Morocco in 2016 and we confirmed by this extension our commitment and our confidence in the Moroccan aeronautical industry, in its skills, its employees and its training center”.

Indeed, Hexcel Casablanca has been transforming, since its creation in 2018, lightweight honeycomb materials into machined parts to strengthen aircraft structures, engine nacelles and helicopter blades.

Speaking on this occasion, Minister Ryad Mezzour underlined that “the Hexcel group’s expansion project is unequivocal proof of the success of its establishment in Morocco and a strong signal of the momentum currently underway in the aeronautics industry. national. This project will contribute to strengthening the local integration of trades with higher added value while meeting the challenge of ensuring the decarbonization of the sector. This feat is attributable to the quality of our industrial platform and also to our qualified human capital, which promotes the competitiveness of the sector and the attractiveness of Morocco as a destination”.

And to add: “Morocco is continuing to consolidate its achievements to align itself with the trends of the global aeronautics sector, with a view to becoming a hub of the aeronautics industry at the regional level and a major player at the international”.

It should be noted that this ceremony was held in the presence of several players in the ecosystem, in particular, Vincent Caro, president of Safran Nacelles, Karim Cheikh, president of the Group of Moroccan aeronautical and space industries (GIMAS), Hamid Benbrahim El Andaloussi, president of the MidParc, and Aimee Cutrona, Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy.
