Over the past few years, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has put much of its efforts into arresting the ringleaders of the world’s largest cartels.
Among them, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) stands out, a criminal organization led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, better known as “El Mencho.”
The head of the four-letter cartel, throughout his criminal life, has remained in the shadows and for this reason the DEA is currently offering a reward of US$10 million for information leading to his capture.
Despite these efforts, Mexican and US authorities do not know the exact location of “El Mencho” and all operations to arrest him have failed.
However, this could change because, according to journalist Óscar Balderas, Mexican authorities were working for months on a plan to locate the dangerous drug trafficker and send him to prison.
The purpose of this operation was to arrest “El Mencho” at some point between January 1 and March 1, 2024, as Balderas revealed, because they already knew the place where he was hidden.
But all the progress to put Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes behind bars was in vain after President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s recent rejection of the US anti-drug agency, a situation that caused all operations to be suspended.

Although the operations to arrest the head of the CJNG were stopped, it was revealed that the authorities had discovered that the dangerous criminal, who has been evading justice for years, is supposedly hiding somewhere in Australia.
The arrival of “El Mencho” to Australia would have occurred because this is one of the countries that consumes the most methamphetamine produced in Mexico and, since 2016, the CJNG surpassed the Sinaloa Cartel as the criminal organization with the most presence in this zone.
However, this information has not been confirmed because there is no data to prove that Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, who suffers from serious health problems, has left Mexican territory.
