Due to the abundant rainfall of the past 24 hours, several watercourses have risen above their water level. For the time being, the forecasts for the unnavigable watercourses do not indicate critical flooding. The situation is being monitored, according to Waterinfo.be. It rained heavily in Dudzele, Zingem and Loenhout in particular, with respectively 39, 37.8 and 37.5 millimeters of precipitation between 6 p.m. last night and 6 p.m. tonight. “It has already become a bit drier in the west,” says Dehenauw. “The rain zone is now gradually moving towards Wallonia, but few problems are expected there – just like in Flanders.”
Vigilance thresholds
The Diversion Canal (via Merendree/Schipdonk) is used for the drainage of the Leie and Upper Scheldt around Ghent. The B4 weir in Zwijnaarde has been opened. The levels on the Moervaart and Durme are also rising. The wake threshold on the Durme has been exceeded.
The wake thresholds are probably not exceeded on the Dender. For the Meuse, the peak discharge, after the next major precipitation zone on Saturday, will only occur towards the end of the weekend or Monday. In the next few days, the level at high tide on the Zeeschelde in Melle will be close to or higher than the level of the Ringvaart.
In the south of the country, the water level in the Basse-Semois basin and its tributaries has risen to pre-flood alert. This is evident from the most recent data for the Walloon waterways. This will also be the case in the coming hours for the basins of the Vierre, the Chiers, the Moyenne and the Haute Semois, as well as the Sûre. “The water level of the rivers will rise again and the pre-alert thresholds may be reached overnight from Thursday to Friday. Levels should reach their maximum by late afternoon on Friday, while remaining below the alert thresholds.”
