Luis Miguel Grijalva Morales shared this Friday, March 22, in an activity organized at the Erick Barrondo Sports Center, the origin of his nickname “Tarzan”, and he also trained on the newly renovated athletics track of the Erick Barrondo stadium.

Grijalva, who is visiting Guatemala after 23 years, has taken advantage of the last few days in the country to carry out immigration procedures, visit tourist places and to spend time with family.

This March 22, Luis was invited by the Ministry of Culture and Sports to be present at the inauguration of the athletics track at the Erick Barrondo stadium and later answered questions to the media, revealing the origin of his nickname “Tarzan” and He also shared details about his visit to Antigua Guatemala, a tourist reference point in the country, and also declared that he positively received the news that he will be able to represent the country in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

I returned to Guatemala three days ago, when I saw the news that the suspension was lifted I thought it was a good day to return to Guatemala. The Olympic Games are the greatest thing in the world. And I feel happy to be able to represent Guatemala, everyone can see us“he said excitedly.

In such a short time in the country, Grijalva has not known much, but he admitted that he already went to Antigua Guatemala and told a little about his experience.

I liked talking and meeting people, the country is beautiful. I was in Antigua and it is beautiful”.

Later in the talk the question arose about his nickname “Tarzan” and what he thinks about being called that:

According to Grijalva, the origin of his nickname is due to the way he wears his hair. (Free Press Photo: Érick Ávila)

I don’t know who called me Tarzan, I think it’s because of my hair (laughs). Once I did a race and I didn’t hold it, someone called me that and it stuck, I like it, my name is Luis but I do like it“, commented the 24-year-old athlete with a laugh.

Finally, Grijalva took advantage of the moment he was given with the microphone to send a message to the youth of Guatemala; He expressed that it is possible to have a career in sports, but that it will not be easy and he also called for support for athletes so that there are better opportunities later.

Yes you can, you have to train hard. Sometimes it is difficult, we need tracks, coaches or people who know about sports, we need people who are good at helping young people, in the future there will be many running in the Olympic Games like me, let’s hope for that in Los Angeles 2028”.
