An exceptional outcome was undoubtedly needed for a women’s pole vault competition which was absolutely beautiful. Katie Moon and Nina Kennedy, in perfect equality after having both cleared 4.90m on their third attempt and then missed 4.95m, decided to share the gold medal this Wednesday evening at the World Championships in Budapest.
This is a great first in the history of the competition.
After exchanging a few words to confirm their decision, the American and the Australian fell into each other’s arms, overwhelmed with emotion.

This situation is obviously reminiscent of that experienced during the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, by high jumpers Mutaz Essa Barshim and Gianmarco Tamberi, both crowned after a brief meeting with the referee.
