Elliott Binney has a nasty habit of committing hit-and-runs. Between 2010 and 2016, the American from Oklahoma fled three times, after causing an accident. Each time, the charges against him were dropped. This time, however, the 41-year-old will not escape a prison sentence. On January 11, Bixby police rushed to the scene of a traffic accident that occurred around 9 p.m.

At the scene, officers discovered the body of a 16-year-old girl, who had been ejected from the vehicle, reports Fox23. Shelby was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the tragedy. Three members of his family – an adult and two children aged between 5 and 10 – had to be hospitalized. The driver of the car was nowhere to be found. Witnesses say that shortly before the accident, he was driving at around 110 km/h and overtaking numerous vehicles on a section where overtaking was prohibited.

Another claims to have approached the driver just after the accident. He asked him to sit down and tried to find out who was in the car, but the man, who seemed disoriented, fled. Elliott Binney was arrested approximately 75 kilometers from Bixby the following morning. Police believe he fled on foot, leaving his daughter dying at the scene of the accident, and then got another vehicle: he was driving a gray pickup truck at the time. of his arrest.

In the crashed SUV, authorities found vodka and several pill bottles with the labels torn off. The forty-year-old admitted that his family had taken alcohol in the car and that he had drank it while driving. However, too much time had passed between the accident and the arrest to carry out a blood alcohol test.

The driver explained that it was raining and he ran over a puddle of oil, which caused him to lose control of his vehicle. His wife, who was in the car, explained that she and her husband had argued shortly before the crash.

The American was charged with hit-and-run involving death, involuntary manslaughter and illegal overtaking. He was imprisoned and then released on bail.

Shelby was a sophomore in high school, where she was a cheerleader. “She had a heart of gold and was kind to everyone. Shelby always had a smile. (…) We miss her terribly,” we can read on her team’s Facebook page.
