Hockey: Five-time Stanley Cup winner Guy Lafleur has died

A defining figure of the National Hockey League is no longer with us. Guy Lafleur has died at the age of 70. The Canadian, also known as “The Flower” because of his last name, won the Stanley Cup five times with the Montreal Canadiens in the 1970s. He died Friday in a palliative care hospital after a three-year battle with cancer.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of Guy Lafleur’s death,” said Canadiens owner Geoff Molson. “Everyone at the club is devastated. He was one of the greatest players in our club and at the same time an exceptional ambassador for our sport.”
