Rowling would lead to Hogwarts Legacy’s downfall even before it launched, but Jonas and many other critics and gamers say Avalanche Software’s game is really great. In fact, it does more than just good work critically. The game is also doing extremely well commercially, and it seems like it might beat Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III to become the best-selling game of 2023. This is apparently true after all, and now we know how. Variety The fine folks over at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment had the opportunity to speak with David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy is the best-selling game of 2023, having sold over 22 million copies before the end of the year. 2 of those million games were even sold in December, so it seems like a lot of people want to spend time at a wizarding school this holiday season, even if Hogwarts Legacy isn’t included in many Game of the Year discussions.
For a major company like Warner Bros., such success means one thing: sequels, spin-offs, and more. Haddad also confirmed this, saying that we can expect more games in the Harry Potter universe than the previously announced Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions.
