AFTER showing the first look in December last year, the production house Base Entertainment released a teaser trailer and poster for its newest horror film, Malam Penacap Life. The almost one minute long teaser trailer is a development of the first look. It shows the main character of the film Night of the Death Reaper, Respati (Devano Danendra), who wakes up and finds himself in another world. From the explanation of one of his school friends, Wulan (Keisya Levronka), Respati has the ability to enter dreamland with full awareness.
Furthermore, in the dark and mysterious dream world there is something that seems to be chasing Respati. The teaser trailer then closes with a montage of tense scenes showing Respati’s life increasingly under threat.
After successfully producing a blockbuster horror film and winning the Citra Cup as the best FFI 2020 film, Perempuan Tanah Jahanam, Malam Penabut Nyawa, became the second horror film from Base Entertainment. In Base’s second horror, they collaborated with director Sidharta Tata, who successfully directed Maghrib Time, one of the blockbuster horror films in 2023. This film is Base Tata’s third collaborative project, after the series Tunnel (2019) and the short film The Protocol, part of the omnibus project entitled Quarantine Tales (2020).
“As a young director, Tata always manages to achieve new achievements in his work. “His exploration, both in storytelling and directing techniques, is always interesting to follow,” said Base Entertainment producer, Shanty Harmayn in a press release received by Media Indonesia, Tuesday, (19/3/2024).
“It’s a pleasure to work again with Tata, supported by a reliable film crew team, working together to deliver a horror film that is more than just scary, but also complete with strong and suspenseful storytelling,” he continued.
The film Malam Penabut Nyawa was inspired by the novel by Ragil JP entitled Respati and the screenplay was written by Ambaridzki Ramadhantyo with Sidharta Tata. The film, which is targeted to be released in cinemas by mid-2024, stars a number of young actors, including Devano Danendra, Keisya Levronka, Mikha Hernan, also comedian Fajar Nugra, as well as well-known actors such as Ratu Felisha, Budi Ros, and Kiki Narendra.
