Electricity prices in the wholesale market are falling, but retail prices remain stable or even increase.
“We have a downward trend in the wholesale electricity market. It started from January and from April 1st a slight rise in the retail price has begun. All providers “stung” in April in order to gradually close the “hole” due to electricity theft,” energy inspector Michalis Christodoulidis said on the show Society Hour MEGA.
The reasons for the increase in the retail price of electricity are the following:
Power theft at a rate of 4.85%
Normal power transmission losses from the network at a rate of 5.17%
Not counted and accrual of charges from thousands of consumer meters at a rate of 3.53%
Some of the ways to eliminate or limit losses are installation of smart meters, the undergrounding of medium and high voltage overhead cablesas well as modernization of network infrastructure using digital technology (smart network).
