It sounds like a Hollywood love story – only it doesn’t have a happy ending. After just four years of marriage, US billionaire Ivy Getty (29) filed for divorce from Austrian photographer Tobias “Toby” Engel – three months ago. The American previously deleted all of her husband’s photos online. All attempts to clarify the problems with a mediator failed, according to “Page Six”.
According to the US magazine, the 29-year-old’s divorce documents are even being contested by her husband. But the billionaire and the entrepreneur’s son had signed a prenuptial agreement at their wedding to protect Ivy’s family’s enormous fortune.
They celebrated their wedding for four days
In 2019, the great-granddaughter of oil tycoon Jean Paul Getty, who was once the richest man in the world, and Engel met on the sidelines of Paris Fashion Week: he wanted to take a photo of her. He then got down on his knees relatively quickly and proposed to Ivy Getty on Capri.
Just a year after their first meeting, the two married in a very intimate setting. The big wedding followed in San Francisco in 2021. The celebrations lasted four days with 450 guests, and the wedding itself took place in the City Hall. Her maid of honor was Anya Taylor Joy. The bride and her bridesmaids were personally dressed by John Galliano.
The curse of the family
At the time, there were rumors in the international media as to whether Ivy would finally break the Getty curse with her wedding. The family has struggled with adversity for decades, including suicide, drug abuse, divorce and kidnapping. But now her marriage was falling apart too.
«Friends warned Ivy more and more about Tobias. “He apparently tried to alienate her from her environment, interfered more and more, put her under pressure,” says a friend of Ivy’s to “Bild”.
